Delicious meal last night to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Particularly enjoyed my bianchetti (deep field whitebait) which I haven’t eaten for years. Excellent food and service. Most agreeable evening.
The meal we have just had is without doubt the best meal we have ever had in Durham. We had decided to eat out in Durham tonight and to work up an appetite decided to walk around parts we don’t often frequent. Heading away from the market place up Claypath we came across Bistro Italiano. Whilst reading the menu one of the members of staff pleasantly informed us of the specials inside and being fish and seafood fans we went in. We were not disappointed. The menu was comprehensive and very reasonable, the staff friendly and amusing and the whole ambience very Italian. We had a 3 course meal from the specials board ( garlic bread and crab and anchovies salad for starters, sea bass and king prawns in a chilli Napoli sauce, swordfish and scallops in a garlic and ginger ale sauce for mains and crepes with grand marnier with ice cream for dessert which was enough for both of us)and a bottle of wine and a double espresso for less than £80. They also offer early bird and set meal menus. We have already decided to go back before Christmas and I feel this is only the beginning. It isn’t a large restaurant and did fill up while we were there so I think booking would be essential. We went in at 5.30 and there was plenty of free tables.
It’s really nice to eat in a restaurant which offers good original food with friendly staff instead of national chains who don’t seem to care!
Visited on recommendation. Was not disappointed enjoyed our meal, staff very attentive and we would certainly go back.
